What we do
Mental Health Awareness
In 2023-24 we reached out to nearly 5000 women and school children on mental health awareness We worked with schools Mumbai - Purshottam High School, Gaiban Shah Urdu School. Maniklal High School, Shiv Sai School, Huzefa and Rizvi college, Purshottam High School, AKI Urdu Boys High School, Anjum School – Jagruti nagar, Gulshan-e-Islam Urdu High School, Z.B. Zakaria English High School, Salmaan Classes and Shaan-e-Millat School. We reached out to students in the districts of Osmanabad, Amravati, Akola, Palghar, Sangamner These sessions were also conducted in the communities of Bharatnagar, Asalpha, Golibar, Lal Mitti and Gyaneshwar nagar, Goregoan, Nalasopara, Sakinaka. We also spoke to parents of Uzma School and women from the Mehndi class.
Mental Health Counselling And Therapy
In 2023-24, we reached out to 120 women, youth and children with mental health services. These community outreach on mental health has provided a safe space for mentally disturbed individuals to seek professional help to address their mental health issues. We have professionally trained counsellors and therapist who skilfully help the client navigate through difficult emotions and arrive at some sort of equilibrium. Women, children, addicted individuals, victims of violence and abuse reach out to us.
Pre-Marital/relationship Awareness
IN 2023-24 we reached out 2000 youth and parents on the above issue. The objective of the training was to equip youth on an important issue of marriage and relationship. We facilitate thinking and self-reflection on their expectations of their partner, their non-negotiables, their readiness to enter the relationship and safeguarding their own dreams, self-respect and identity. These sessions were also held in the communities of Saki Naka, Ghatkopar, Asalpha, Bharatnagar, Nalasopara, Goregoan, Gyaneshwar nagar and other part of Mumbai.
Ubharte Rehnuma [Rising Leaders]
In this flagship programme of BMMA we empower youth for their preparation for their life as an empowered citizen. This National Youth Program was held with 40 youth and young women leaders of BMMA. We covered issues of mental health, pre-marital and relationship awareness, Islamic Feminism and Muslim family law. So far 2 such camps have been held.
Islamic Nisaiyat Training/islamic Feminism
In this year we had an amazing collaboration with Musawah. BMMA conducted a 3 phase workshop on Islamic Feminism. The first phase was online, second was offline in Nepal and third again was online. It was a collaborative effort. Issues covered were Islamic values of ahsan, qiwamah, tawheed, aulia, khalifa, gender, Muslim family law, reforms in other countries, understanding shariah, fiqh and law, unpaid care work, framework of reforms
Leadership Development
We believe that this world must be led by women. All institutions must be led by women so that we are able to reduce the impact of toxic patriarchy on the society. To that end we conduct leadership development programmes with women, especially Muslim women so that they can not only lead their families but also the larger society.
